5 Ingenious Methods to Use a Steel Sponge at Dwelling.

What are the metallic ball-shaped sponges found in supermarkets used for?

This object is mainly known to help scrub pots and dishes.

But did you know that it has many other uses?

It was Lucie, a friend who does housework, who helped me find all the ways to use the stainless steel sponge.

And I must say that his advice was invaluable to me.

Because, now, I take advantage of all the properties of this object when I clean the house.

Here are 5 ingenious uses for metal sponges at home. Look :

1. The stainless steel sponge scrubs the pans

Your meal hung on the bottom of the pan?

Hello the anguish to clean this, especially if it has burned a little.

The metal pad is then very useful for removing any food residue stuck to the bottom.

Put hot water in the pan and let it soak for a few minutes.

Then, moisten the stainless steel sponge with clear water and rub gently to remove all the dirt.

And that’s all !

Don’t even need chemicals.

Residues are trapped in the metal mesh without too much effort.

However, be careful not to scratch the bottom of « Téfal » type saucepans or frying pans.

This is the risk if you rub too hard with an abrasive object.

2. The metal sponge cleans the plancha

A little plancha with friends is great.

On the other hand, hello the anxiety to clean the hob.

For what ?

Because food cooked at very high temperatures has literally stuck, leaving residues that are impossible to remove with a simple sponge.

A little friendly advice, first spread a paste of water and baking soda on the plate to soften the food.

Then, with the wet steel wool, rub gently to loosen the last residues.

Then, soap and rinse.

Again, be careful not to scratch the baking sheet.

3. She also cleans barbecue grills

As with the plancha, the barbecue grill is an ordeal to clean.

With charred and stuck-on leftover meat, skewers and sausages, that’s no small feat.

However, it can really make our job easier.

Especially if the grid has previously been soaked in a solution of hot water and Marseille’s soap.

Then wet the iron sponge, scrub and rinse.

She is ready to resume service at the next craving for grilling!

4. The stainless steel sponge strips the paint

Before repainting an object, it must be stripped and the old paint residue removed.

A dry stainless steel sponge helps to achieve this task without using chemicals.

I recently tried this technique on a small balcony fence that was peeling off.

Before repainting it, I scraped the few bars with this metal pad.

And I must admit that the result is impeccable: all the old chipped paint has disappeared.

So, yes, of course, you need a little elbow grease! But at least I didn’t have to use an expensive and polluting product.

Now all I have to do is apply the new coat of paint.

5. Metallic sponge peels off labels

Ah the labels stuck on the glass jars.

Some are impossible to take off.

I’m sure you know what I’m talking about: thousands of torn pieces of label all over the sink. And the pot isn’t even clean.

To avoid this, and make the task easier, you can use the damp metal sponge with a little greasy soap such as « Marseille soap ».

After soaking the pot in hot water for at least 1 hour, scrape off the label with the soapy sponge.

In a few passages, the label peels off without leaving in confetti.

Advantages and disadvantages of stainless steel sponge

The stainless steel sponge, as we have seen, provides many services when it comes to scouring, scraping, taking off.

And that, on any surface.

It is effective, because thanks to it, no chemicals are used. Economical and ecological!

Plus, it doesn’t rust.

However, there are 5 precautions to take with this metallic sponge. Here they are :

Clean it after each use. Its spiral mesh texture keeps all the bits of food you just scrape off. It’s disgusting! That’s why you have to rinse it well and clean it every time.

Disinfect it. Once a week, disinfect the sponge with heated white vinegar.

Let it dry well. Another important hygiene measure. Drying avoids any risk of mould.

Change it regularly. There is a risk of decomposition into metal particles with overused sponges. Which is not good for health.

Do not use it anywhere. Surfaces such as plastic, Teflon, or natural stones (marble, granite) do not support the abrasive texture of this sponge.
