Less massive and dark than wooden ones, glass tables bring a particularly elegant and luminous effect to a room. It is therefore the ideal solution not to further darken a dark room, but also to furnish a small space by visibly giving a more spacious and airy result. In addition, unlike the wooden table, the glass one absorbs liquids and stains less. Despite this, the question of its maintenance remains thorny, because this material is more prone to scratches and fingerprints. So how do you clean a glass table effectively and without leaving streaks? Grandma tells you how to keep it perfectly clean every day!

1) Ban products that can damage the glass

Some products can damage your glass table. As with window washing, ban abrasive sponges or scouring pads which can leave scratches. In addition, it is better to limit greasy household products, but also white spirit and turpentine which can irreparably damage the glass part that makes up your furniture. Finally, limit the use of paper towels, which leave traces and paper residue on all the glass surfaces of the house.

2) How to do the daily maintenance of the glass table

To clean a glass table after each use or meal, you can simply use a non-abrasive sponge or a soft, lint-free cloth (microfiber type), both moistened beforehand. To do this, soak them with distilled water. Indeed, tap water may contain limestone which leaves white marks on the glass. Then, all you have to do is make circular movements to remove the dirt.

3) Use newspaper as for windows

the crumpled and moistened newspaper that you already use for your windows and mirrors will prove to be just as effective on your glass table. Just rub gently in small circles to get a clean and shiny table effortlessly.

4) Simply take out your dishwashing liquid!

If you’ve spilled wine, grease or coffee on your dining table, use a damp cloth soaked in a few drops of washing-up liquid (or black soap) to clean up the stains. Once the stains are removed, rinse the table and use a clean, dry cloth to dry it. A passage of newspaper in a ball can then remove any last traces.

5) Vinegar or lemon for an impeccable window

White vinegar is a maintenance product at the same time cleaner, degreaser, disinfectant and descaling agent. Pure or diluted on a damp cloth, this multi-purpose is perfect for restoring shine to your glass table. Alternatively, you can also replace it with lemon which has the advantage of having the same virtues, but with a better smell. All you have to do here is cut this citrus fruit in half and use it as a sponge. Then, let it sit and rinse with clear water.

In both cases, it will be necessary to finish the cleaning with a drying with a dry cloth and possibly use the technique of the newspaper to eliminate the last traces.

6) Household alcohol for stubborn stains on a glass table

To remove heavy dirt or stubborn stains (paint, glue, ink, etc.), the cleaning products suggested above may not be sufficient. In this case, use a few drops of rubbing alcohol on a damp cloth instead. Attention, the wearing of gloves is recommended for the use of this product.
