He bursts into tears when he hears the guts of his deceased daughter in one other’s chest.

Bill Conner had a moving moment when he heard the heartbeat of his 20-year-old daughter in the chest of organ recipient Loumonth Jack. “She saved me, and I can’t return the favor,” Jack said.

One of the worst things a parent can go through is the loss of a child. Sadly, Bill Conner endured this pain when his 20-year-old daughter, Abbey, unexpectedly passed away in 2017.

Abbey and his brother Austin were enjoying their winter vacation in Cancun when they were both discovered face down in a resort pool.

Austin survived this sad event, but unfortunately his sister did not. Abbey suffered an irreversible brain injury, which led to her death. Nonetheless, she died like a heroine, for someone else.

At the age of 16, Abbey had decided to become an organ donor if she were to undergo an unfortunate event. She was therefore placed on respiratory assistance, so that doctors could remove her organs for transplantation.

The man she saved was Loumonth Jack Jr, 21, from Louisiana. He had suffered a heart attack and was in dire need of a new heart to live. Abbey’s heart was his miracle.

A few months after his death, Bill honored his daughter’s life by cycling 3000 km to visit the hospital where his daughter’s organs were donated.

Bill also arranged to meet Jack on Father’s Day, as he was cycling to his destination. As soon as they met, the two men walked towards each other with open arms. He shared:

« Knowing that he is alive thanks to Abbey, Abbey is alive in him. It is his heart that makes him stand up straight. I was happy for him and his family, and at the same time, I was able to find my daughter. »

After a long hug, Jack handed Bill a stethoscope, so he could hear Abbey’s heartbeat. As soon as Bill heard a thud, he and Jack started to cry. Jack shared:

« She saved me, and I can’t return the favor. I wish I could, but I can’t. All I can do is send my love to her family. »

In addition to Jack, Abbey saved the lives of four men, aged 20 to 60. His eyes and other tissues were also donated to patients, who were in dire need of them.

Bill has since set up a GoFundMe page to raise awareness about organ donation, and how it can save lives. The funds for the page went to Donate Life America, and funded his bike trip in honor of his late daughter.

Abbey’s story has undoubtedly inspired other people to become heroes in their own way, by being organ donors. Like Abbey, another man has been hailed as a hero for saving another woman’s life, by donating her liver.

Cecil Lockhart, 60, became the oldest organ donor in the country, when he died and donated his liver to a 60-year-old woman.

Lockhart’s son Stanley, who passed away several years ago, prompted him to do the same and become an organ donor. At the time of Stanley’s death, his tissues saved the lives of 75 people who will always be grateful to him for.
