You know when there are splatters of fat everywhere after cooking a chicken.
It’s frankly disgusting and in addition it leaves a bad smell inside.
Not easy to remove, all that.
But, for me, it is no longer a question of using commercial degreasing products.
So I asked Christophe who is a roaster in my neighborhood market. He is used to cleaning his oven regularly.
And for him, there is a secret ingredient that degreases super well.
Here’s how to clean an oven naturally with lemon. Look :
What you need
– 2 squeezed lemons
– bowl of water
– sponge
– clean cloth
How to do
1. Heat the oven to 120°C.
2. Squeeze the 2 lemons and collect the juice.
3. Pour the juice into the bowl of water and stir.
4. Place the bowl of lemon water in the oven and let it heat for 30 minutes.
5. After 30 min, turn off the temperature and leave the bowl in the closed oven for 15 min.
6. Once the lemon vapor has settled on the walls of the oven, pass the sponge to remove the grease residue.
7. Rinse with clear water.
8. Wipe with the clean cloth.
Result
And There you go ! Your oven is now spotless and degreased 🙂
Easy, fast and effective, right?
In the blink of an eye, everything is perfect.
And for that, you don’t even need a « Decap’Four » type product which is super chemical.
Not to mention the price!
At least with lemons it’s all natural.
And don’t forget to recycle their bark, because they can still be used!
Why does it work?
Lemon is naturally degreasing thanks to its acidity.
The heated juice will release steam which settles on the walls.
Thus, it naturally degreases them.
All you have to do is pass the sponge to remove everything.
Another advantage, lemon is bactericidal. That is, it naturally kills most bacteria.
A good thing in a place where you cook.
Finally, lemon deodorizes and neutralizes bad smells. No one wants to have a smelly oven!
And guess the best?
This trick also works for microwaves.
Bonus Tip for a Very Dirty Oven
Was your oven really gross? With well-encrusted cooked and annealed fat?
It may seem super difficult to remove.
But do not panic.
Use the same trick with lemon water vapor.
And before mopping up, mix baking soda and water to form a paste.
Spread this paste on the walls and let it act for 15 minutes.
If there is lemon juice left, pour it into a spray bottle.
Spray the juice directly on the baking soda and let it foam.
Then rinse with a damp sponge and dry with a clean towel.
You will see, all stuck residues are removed with disconcerting ease.
The device is like new without the slightest effort.
Bicarbonate, in addition to being a degreaser, helps to take off the projections on the walls by softening them.
If in addition, you make it react with the lemon, it will be twice as effective.
