4. Morgellons disease
Apparently, quite a few people suffer from this mysterious disease, except that WebMD said the studies « find no underlying cause for the disease. » The main symptom that patients complain about are wounds which are slow to heal and give the impression that « insects are crawling under their skin ». In some cases, patients even report strange « fibers » and even worms coming out of the skin after scratching themselves alive.
However, a study launched by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2008, which examined blood and urine samples from patients claiming to have the disease, could not identify a common cause, notes WebMD. « The results do not exclude the possibility that Morgellons are a newly recognized disease, » he adds.
5. Adrenal fatigue
This is a commonly discussed condition that causes the patient to show symptoms of fatigue and generally feel exhausted. However, a Washington Post article said the disease itself may be fictitious, a diagnosis often made by naturopaths and holistic nutritionists « which offers hope to those suffering from chronic fatigue ».
The idea is that the adrenal glands (above the kidneys) are not making enough of the stress hormone cortisol. Too much stress is blamed for overworking the glands and leads to the condition which leaves patients constantly feeling tired. However, adrenal fatigue « is not recognized by any endocrinology company or endocrinologist, doctors specializing in hormone-related health problems, » the source adds. However, doctors recognize adrenal insufficiency, but it’s not due to stress, because stress actually produces more stress hormones.
